Maternal Fetal Medicince Fellowship

For patients whose pregnancies are considered high-risk, SLU Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians are providing pre-conception counseling and evaluation co-management or management of all aspects of complicated pregnancies.

    Our physicians have expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of maternal medical and surgical complications such as:
  • advanced maternal age
  • antiphospholipid syndrome
  • cardiovascular and hypertensive disorders
  • connective tissue diseases
  • diabetes mellitus
  • infectious diseases
  • neurologic disorders
  • thromboembolism
  • thyroid and other endocrine disorders and other

 

    as well as obstetrical complications which may include:
  • abnormal quad screen
  • abruptio placenta
  • amniotic fluid embolism
  • fetal growth restriction
  • multi-fetal gestations (twins, triplets, etc...)
  • placenta previa
  • pre-eclampsia or eclampsia
  • preterm labor
  • preterm premature rupture of membranes
  • recurrent pregnancy losses and other

Specialized clinics for prematurity and multiple gestations, diabetes in pregnancy, cardiovascular disorders of pregnancy, fetal anomalies, recurrent pregnancy losses, and drug abuse or other are available for outpatient management.

Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Managment
The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Management is staffed by a unique and most experienced multidisciplinary team of maternal-fetal medicine physicians, neonatologists, medical geneticists and genetic counselors, pediatric medical specialists, and pediatric surgical specialists. Diagnosis and management of a wide variety of fetal genetic disorders, congenital anomalies, fetal infection and fetal medical, and surgical complications are available. Procedures such as specialized ultrasound of fetal anatomy, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling (PUBS, funicentesis), fetal paracentesis, fetal thoracentesis, and other fetal procedures are performed routinely.
