The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is part of the SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine Residency Program.
- Provides physician training in return-to-play and interventional procedures using the highest quality evidence-based medicine.
- Fellows will learn the principles of public and community health and interprofessional care, and will be trained to address the psychosocial issues of families and communities. Emphasis will be made on the importance of healthy lifestyle, exercise and additional values of preventative medicine.
Core Rotations
Fellows will have at least four weekly clinics in primary care sports medicine and a continuity clinic. In addition, fellows will serve as one of the team physicians for several teams at the high school, college and professional levels.
- Five separate orthopedics ambulatory specialty clinics (eight weeks)
- Orthopedics: Sports medicine (longitudinal)

Curriculum
Fellows will receive experience and exposure in on-field management and medical transportation of urgent and emergent sports medicine problems through sideline and mass participation events. In addition, fellows will receive season training in splinting, spine boarding, CPR, airway management and AED placement in conjunction with annual SSM SportsCare Outreach courses. A fellow will have additional responsibility in event-planning and the development of an emergency action plan in coordination with local EMS.
