Travel Information for International Students

Students from more than 80 countries choose Saint Louis University each year. Before traveling outside the United States, current international students should review the University's travel policies. For new International students resources such as airport pickup options and directions to campus, visit international student orientation.

Travel Signatures

Any Saint Louis University international student planning international travel must have a valid travel signature on their I-20 or DS-2019. A travel signature is required for reentry into the United States. It is not required for travel within the United States, exiting the United States, or initial entry.

Each travel signature is valid for six months from the date it was signed.

To obtain a travel signature:

  • Review your passport and I-20 or DS-2019 to make sure they have not expired.
  • Ensure you are maintaining your status by confirming your full course load and updating your residential address via mySLU.
  • Ensure your travel plans are during university breaks. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may deny entry to any student found exiting or entering the country when they are scheduled to be in class. Students who miss the first class or significant portions of the semester may also be dropped from their courses. There is no approval process for personal circumstances.
